With the release of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, Apple is integrating ChatGPT into its latest devices. Users will have the option to use OpenAI’s ChatGPT when Apple’s own Apple Intelligence features are not sufficient.
During the recent announcement of Apple Intelligence, Apple revealed a partnership with OpenAI to incorporate ChatGPT into the updated version of Siri.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple has been discussing a potential AI partnership with Meta, Perplexity, and Anthropic.
A deal with Meta could diversify Apple’s AI partnerships and validate Meta’s generative AI technology. Instead of paying for these partnerships, Apple plans to offer distribution to AI partners, who can then sell premium subscriptions.
Apple has stated that it will request user permission before sharing questions and data with ChatGPT. Any integration with Meta is expected to follow a similar protocol.
In another development, Apple announced that although Apple Intelligence is set to launch with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia later this year, it will not be available in the European Union due to the EU’s Digital Markets Act, which aims to promote competition in digital markets. Additionally, Apple will withhold iPhone Mirroring and SharePlay Screen Sharing in the EU. The company cited concerns that the interoperability requirements of the DMA could compromise product integrity and potentially risk user privacy and data security.
