The Summer Reading List

I have finally got around to making my summer reading list! Now that I have my beloved Kindle I am making it a point to read everyday, always making sure I have it in my bag. I have curated a list of recommendations from friends, or authors that I already love and want to read more off. It’s a mixture of novels, and non fiction so I hope there is something for everyone. So grab a spot in the park, slap on some sunscreen, and let’s dive into these literary gems together!

Let My People Go Surfing by Yvon Chouinard

This is actually the first book I have started from this list. It’s a memoir by the founder of Patagonia, blending his love for surfing with lessons on sustainable business practices. I am already loving this book and his perspective on business.

BUY

Homebodies by Tembe Denton-Hurst

This is my kind of book, a perfect read for anyone who cherishes their cozy, introverted side. A collection of essays that celebrates the joys of staying in and finding comfort in our own spaces. Exploring the pleasures of solitude, self-care, and creating a sanctuary that feels like home.

BUY

The Idiot by Elif Batuman

My friend told me that this book had her laughing out loud so I had to get it. The idiot is a coming-of-age novel that follows the adventures of Selin, a young woman starting her freshman year at Harvard. With a mix of humor, intellect, and awkwardness, Batuman captures the uncertainties and complexities of early adulthood, exploring themes of language, culture, and love.

Another Country by James Baldwin

I wanted to add a classic to the list this summer and Another Country was top of my list. A powerful novel that delves into themes of love, identity, and racial tension. Set in 1950s America, it follows the lives of a diverse group of characters as they navigate relationships, desires, and societal pressures.

All About Love by Bell Hooks

I always love to throw a few non fiction books in the mix and I’ve heard amazing things about Bell Hooks. This book challenges conventional ideas about love and offers a vision of love as a radical force for social change.

I don’t often read fantasy but this book has been recommended to me multiple times. It takes place in an intricate labyrinthine world. The story follows the the main character as he navigates a mysterious House, filled with endless halls and surreal wonders.
